bobbi+john+rylie

some of my most favorite things in the world are refreshingly real people and people who completely trust me and allow me to work creatively. bobbi and john are both these things! from the first time we met, they were excited about my work, which makes the experience of an engagement session so much more rich and enjoyable. here are some of my favorites from the most glorious fall afternoon...
i couldn't choose between these two so i had to post both! their love is one that is built on years of friendship and you can see it in the way that they look at each other. that is so beautiful to me.
bobbi and john sat in the middle of a busy street for me to get this shot, and did a number of other seemingly crazy things in order for me to get the shot that i really wanted to get.

precious rylie... she was truly a delight to be around.

beautiful brittany

spending an afternoon with brittany is one of the most refreshing things i have done lately. she has a soft voice and eyes that are full of hope and compassion and a heart that truly cares about people around the world. she has seen parts of the world and has been changed by what she saw.here are some of my favorite photos from our time together.

this is one of my most favorite photos, possibly ever. it is rare to meet someone who is so at home in their own skin that it translates into photos. brittany has a quiet smile that shows the peace she has, and i love that. i am excited to see what good the world will see because of brittany's beautiful spirit.

pam & clif

Pam and Clif had an intimate wedding which was originally planned to be outdoors at their home on Lake of the Forest... and then the hottest days of Kansas summer showed up three days before their wedding day! They were forced to relocate their wedding to an indoor location, their neighborhood clubhouse, but everything still turned out beautifully. Here are some of my favorite shots from their wedding...

This is Pam right before the ceremony... I loved the wide range of emotions that she went through just before she walked down the aisle.

Clif melted when he saw Pam. I think anyone watching his face could tell that she was the only person in the world who mattered to him at the exact moment Pam was walking toward him.

Their love for each other is a really beautiful thing to witness. They look at each other with loving eyes full of kindness and understanding.

I love this photo of them because not only are they so happy, but their wonderful house is in the background.

Congratulations Pam and Clif! More soon...

mae & enoch magazine

recently i had the pleasure and the privilege of shooting the mae show for enoch magazine. enoch is a budding music and entertainment online magazine that has covered all kinds of shows, and a few crazy guys' trip to live on skid row for a few weeks. i love their passion and committment to pushing the envelope a little bit when it comes to living in a radically different way than what our culture dictates, so when nate asked if i would go to lawrence to shoot the mae show, i was thrilled. not only does mae put on a fantastic show, they, like me, are from virginia, which automatically steps them up quite a few notches in my book!

hanging out before they play...the walls in the upstairs room were fantastically photogenic.

i didn't mean to do this, but when i was looking through my shots from the evening, i noticed these three photos and thought they made a pretty cool set...

to promote donations towards a project they are doing for habitat for humanity, the guys of mae played a special acoustic set for anyone who donated money to habitat for humanity at the show. i was especially a fan of the water jug drum.

zac & tiffany

i haven't blogged anything in an eternity, but that doesn't mean i haven't been shooting. i've just been to busy to blog! have no fear though, i'm back, and i think i may have outdone myself on these photos. it's always a really special thing when one of your good friends finds love. for me, this engagement session was precious for that reason. zac and i have been friends for a very long time, and seen each other through good and bad relationships, so it's an honor to be the photographer that he and his fiance, tiffany chose to do their wedding and engagement photos. i had so many favorites, but unfortunately there isn't enough room to post them all! here are a few of my best...

zac and tiffany are dancers, like me, so we had to try something in the post world war II style since we all love swing... this is my absolute favorite.

if you want to see the rest of the photos from their engagement session, i had to post them on my flickr site. you can check them out at www.flickr.com/photos/simplysavvy.

lee & sabrina get married!

it is always so wonderful to be a part of a wedding where everyone, including the guests, are so excited to be there. lee and sabrina's wedding ceremony was one of the most touching ceremonies i have had the joy of being a part of...and the rest of the day was fantastic too! needless to say, it was really difficult choosing my favorite shots from the day.

i love this shot of sabrina looking at herself in the mirror. it is one of my all-time favorite photos.
this is another one that really was so precious to me...

blessed.

at weddings it is a difficult thing to catch a truly perfect shot that really shows the emotion of the day, but this one really sums up all the love between lee and sabrina. i really like the genuine happiness on their faces. i think everyone at the wedding probably felt the same way seeing them as husband and wife.

between the ceremony and the reception, lee and sabrina took their siblings to pin-up bowl for something fun to do.
classic lee orrison...

even though this one is really 'artsy' i really loved it. there is something really unique about a woman in a wedding dress bowling.

for their first dance, lee and sabrina danced to the song 'true companion' and i think that song says a lot about them. i can't imagine lee or sabrina being married to anyone else. they are really true companions.

ladies and gentlemen...i give you toni dodd... i don't usually choose a lot of dance photos for blog posts, but seeing as how most of the people at the wedding were dancers, and because toni is a good friend of ours, this one was too good to pass up.
